What does a treehouse represent?

In the funny movie “You again!” the characters find a shelter for their problems in this treehouse. When they were kids this was just a place to play and to shelter from adults, then when they were teenagers a shelter from the other guys , and finally when they become adults a shelter from the problems of everyday. Since that became the biggest present to make to the person they love!
